Center for the Intrepid 08/20/2009

Colton and I arrived to the Center for the Intrepid Monday, August 17. He is kept very busy with physical therapy twice a day, occupational therapy, and doctor appointments. Soon, we hope to be moving on base. On Wednesday, August 19, Lackland Air Force Base hosted a benefit golf tournament for Colton. We are truly grateful for everyone who came out to play and all the funds that were donated. Because of all of you that have donated, Colton, along with his VA vehicle grant, will be able to get a modified vehicle when he is able to drive. We are planning on being here at the Center for the Intrepid for atleast 18 months - 2 years. Colton and I have met lots of young men and women that are in the same situation as he is in. We have been inspired by the different men and women from all branches, supporting each other along the same journey. Thanks to everyone for all the prayers and support!

You are truly and inspiration. My grandfather passed away after there was a mistake made during his gallbladder surgery. Your story sounded so similar and even though I was so young then, I remember how scared I was. I had my own gallbladder removed a few years later and my father was extremely scared for me as I went into that OR. I had complications not nearly as bad as yours, or my grandfathers and have made a full recovery, thankfully.

I am now an Air Force wife and I am so proud to have someone like you serving our country with my husband. Your wife is such an example of the supporter I long to be for my husband.

My husband and I will be praying for you! Best Wishes...

Colton, I am so glad to read how well you are progressing. You've been heavy on my heart every since Irene originally posted the original prayer request on Facebook. I thank God regularly for the progress you've made & for him to continue blessing you w/ improved health. Keep up the good work! You have a lot of work ahead of you, but I know you will do well. Glad to see a vehicle will be fitted w/ hand controls for you. At one time, I used to do driver's training w/ the hand controls (about 17 years ago, but the principal is the same!). You'll do fine. You'll be spending more of your rehab time w/ PT, but don't discount your OT. They are pretty smart people too! (says an OT of 23 years experience!). I'll be back here to check up on your progress again soon.

So good to hear that things are well! Praise God for His blessings in your life. As part of your very large extended family here at Beale AFB I greatly appreciate the updates!
Jessica, stay strong! I once heard a quote that I feel might be fitting here, "If you think our US Airmen, Soldiers or Marines are tough you have probably never met their wives!"
Colton, you make me proud to be apart of the USAF family and you make my husband proud to serve! Keep up the good work and we will be praying for you everyday!

Colton - Jessica
Wonderful to see you up and able to get out Colton-your determination is remarkable. The Team Read golf tourn was a great success; a beautiful day, many nice men/women playing golf; well organized day by the personel at the golf course. It was heartwarming to stand on the hills and see them playing to help benefit you. I think it all came together. See you soon, Love Gran
