Colton slept last night and is resting now. They are taking him into surgery this afternoon.  He still has a fever, but they have started antibiotics.

The original surgery happened two weeks ago today.

Airman Read and Jessica,

I am in Spraggs, PA and have just learned of your terrible situation. Everyone will be in my thoughts and prayers. I recently had the very routine gall bladder surgery as well. I couldn't imagine going through what both of you are going through right now. I wish the best of luck and I will be praying for you.

I have been so shocked and horrified by this unbelievable tragedy to such a wonderful young man. I am praying for Colton and family continuously every day. I am praying for strength--esp mental and emotional strength-- and a faith that will not waiver in light of this horror. God bless and protect you and bring you through this shock! You are truly in my heart and prayers forever. Stay strong!

I'm one of Colton's former teachers at Sam Houston and read about his surgery in the Star-Telegram. I am praying for Colton, Jessica, and his family. Keep your faith and rest on the strength of God.

I pray that that God releases the burden of anger from you so that you may know the peace that accompanies forgiveness, peace that surpasses all understanding and is possible only through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is understandable that anger might be your primary emotion for a while--I pray that you are released quickly from this bondage. I pray that you remember to trust in God--for humans may make mistakes, but He will never fail you. I pray--and I hope you do too--for the surgeon in this case, who likely feels as miserable as anyone about the whole situation. Accidents happen even sometimes to the most capable individuals. I pray that Colton recovers swiftly and is able to return to his duties as a proud Airman. I pray that God showers you with tenderness and mercy, and that you are able to pass these blessings on to those around you in His name. Amen.

To Colton & Family,
Just read your story and how sad to learn such a terrible thing could happen to someone trying to serve our country. My husband was in the Air Force when we were first married. Yes, mistakes happen, even terrible ones, but just to leave you hanging monetary wise, is a terrible disgrace! Shame on our country for not honoring and paying our military men, decent pay,for all they do, to protect our country. You and your family will be in our daily prayers. God be with you all.

Hey there, I continue to pray for Colton and all of you and your family. Our family had a few surgical tragedies along the way and it is a remarkably difficult journey. We did find a lot of bright spots as time went on and healing took place; life is changed, not ended. My prayer is that you may find peace, healing and great hope as time goes on.

I work with the 9th IS BASRHs, around the corner from Colton's area. I am a DoD Contractor (not in the military), and although I did not know Colton personally, I would recognize him in a heartbeat -- a most handsome airman who walked proud, held his head up high, and always with a smile on his face. Since I learned of this tragedy, I have tried to spread the word - raising attention to friends, family, and the media; writing to my Congressmen and Senators and requesting others to do likewise; seek contributions; and did and continue to do a lot of praying! My thoughts and prayers are with Colton, Jessica, his family & friends. May God bless, watch over you all, and keep you strong.

I have never physically met Colton. I have been given the privlege to meet Colton on XBOX live through playing games together. We have been game friends for a couple of years now, and Colton has always been a pleasurable gentleman to play with. A bunch of us that all play together with Colton are deeply saddened by this terrible event. Each of us is doing what we can to help out Colton. I am currently raising funds for Colton, and the letters to my congressmen & senators are being drafted. Get well soon, Colton. We look forward to seeing you soon.

I was so heartbroken to hear what happened to your husband, disbelief as to the Air Force's saying he might be medically discharged, and finally outright disgust at hearing that due to an outdated law, suing the hospital and surgeon(s) wouldn't be possible. You are in my prayers always. God be with you. I will be contacting elected officials on this matter.
