Air Force officials 'coin' Colton Read 07/24/2009
Colton had his 11th surgery last night between 7 and 9 p.m., and they removed more tissue from the right leg. He rested well last night. This morning, he is in and out of awareness. We like to believe that sometimes, he recognizes us all. He responds to us to some degree. CommentsCatherine 07/24/2009 10:24:32 God Bless you & your family! As a Blue Star Mom with a son currently in Iraq for his 2nd deployment, I am just overwhelmed with emotions. It is good to read how the Air Force family is taking care of all of you. The military family is awesome! Many prayers are being lifted, many times a day by this Army mom, you can be sure. God bless each of you and may He give you strength as only He can give. Awesome place to visit! Fond memories to many USAF families that attend BMT Graduation in San Antonio, TX ... this place is usually the Airman's 1st off-base town pass with family & loved ones & many treasured memories are made here! Amanda Elkin 07/24/2009 17:53:38 I am so very sorry for the awful situation that you and your family have been thrown into because of soneone elses mistake. Our hearts go out to Colton, Jessica and the family. You all will be in our thoughts and prayers. David Neville 07/25/2009 17:58:04 When I first heard about this senseless tragedy several days ago, my heart sank. I wanted to write to Colton to tell him now is the time to be strong, now is the time to fight the good fight and be that Airman he always wanted to be, and if the Air Force has anything to say or do to keep that alive in him, now is the time to do just that. I am an ex Navy Corpsman, and today I still assists surgeons in the Operating Room on a daily basis. I understand what can happen, and has, and what remarkable things can happen as well. I think the one thing that has bothered me the most is the Air Forces reactions and comments. Jessica, you are should be so very proud of yourself, the strength and love you obviously have for your husband shows in every interview and article I have seen. You truly respresent what military wives should aspire to be, my mother was an ex-Navy wife, I know. I want to say that my prayers are with you both and your families during these tough times, support one another, love one another and each day will get just a little easier. Colton - "To a Zoomie from a Squid" hang in there brother I will be in your corner. David Sherry Johnson 07/25/2009 18:12:50 I just read your story and now I am on this website. I am deeply saddened by what has happened to Colton. I am a military mom whose son got out of the Navy in May. I cannot imagine the pain and anguish that you are suffering. I prayed that God would hold Colton in his arms and heal him. Jessica..stay strong for your husband you are a testament to love. To Colton's parents and mom especially, my heart is with you. May God give all of you the strength you need to get through this. Monica Phillips 07/25/2009 19:45:36 Jessica, Dori 07/25/2009 19:45:40 My prayers are with you. As a former Air Force wife I know the struggle to fight the system but it can be done. A suggestion for a legal battle should the direct route fail ... sue for loss of family earnings and hardship to the family based upon the doctor's obvious negligence. It is a theory that circumvents the rules as the family has not signed any binding agreements. Vicky 07/25/2009 20:58:15 My prayers are with you during this difficult time. Be strong and Colton keep fighting we're all pulling for you!! CDT Maldonado, U.S. Army ROTC 07/25/2009 22:09:52 Good luck Airman Read! May God speed your recovery and bless you and your family. Keep fighting for the family who loves you so very much; they have done a great job on your behalf. Yesenia 07/26/2009 00:25:16 Praying for you. Please stay strong! Elizabeth Speed 07/26/2009 01:09:23 Jessica Colton and your family Melisa 07/26/2009 07:24:06 This is a very tragic story that touches my heart. My husband is in the Air Force and we were stationed at Travis for over 10 years. Colton's story shocked me and scared me very much. I just had my gallbladder removed in February at David Grant Medical Center. It never occurred to me that something could go wrong with such a routine procedure. It goes to show that a surgery is still major no matter how common. My thoughts and prayers go out to Colton and his entire family. Harriet Sexton (St Andrew's UMC member) 07/26/2009 12:11:50 Colton & family, Love From a Perfect Stranger 07/26/2009 13:04:09 You have touched the lives of so many who have heard of and read your story. There are few who actually know first hand what you are going through. But the love, hope, wishes and prayers are what everyone is sending your way. Courage and determination on your part will help heal and guide you through the days ahead. When your spirits need a lift, the good Lord has a great shoulder to lean on and will always be there for you in your times of need. May God bless and protect you forever. Steve Read 07/26/2009 13:59:27 I just wanted to thank every one for their support and prayers. Its really heart warming to see all these comments. When Colton feels better, we plan on showing all these amazing comments. It truly shows people care. He had surgery today, it went well. The doctors have said they plan on starting to close Colton's right leg on Tuesday but not closing it completely. He still has an up hill battle to fight, a long road a head. With God's help, support of wife, and support of others, he will win the battle. Thanks again for all the prayers and support. Patricia Ivey-Brown 07/26/2009 14:25:12 I was drawn to this site after reading a small article in regard to this tragedy and had to send my thoughts, prayers and well wishes. I have sent your letter all the way to President Obama. RAF Lakenheath SSgt 07/26/2009 15:30:04 Hey buddy, Beale 07/26/2009 15:30:19 Typical Air Force crap, giving him a coin... Maj C 07/27/2009 02:43:56 A1C Read & Family, Valerie 07/27/2009 03:49:26 Dear Read Family, Dwayne and Barbara Mercer 07/27/2009 04:23:13 Colton and family, Jan 07/27/2009 09:32:31 I pray that Colton will get through this. This was a terrible thing to happen to anyone. I hope God watches over him and gives him the strength to get better and to help him deal with this terrible situation. 07/27/2009 18:45:09 As a mother of 2 sons my heart breaks for what this family has gone through, but i know Colton has a loving family and the support and prayers of all who know him and his family,,Colton will be in many prayers every night as his family is in many thoughts and hearts Kevin 07/28/2009 06:38:42 Good luck Airman Read. You have the support of all of us in the Air Force, as well as the millions of people in other branches and civilians following your recovery. Coined... WOW 07/28/2009 19:44:24 you lost your legs but got a coin, congrats. this type of stuff pisses me off, because you know the Dr is going to be allowed to exit the military with nothing negative on his record and will be able to get a job as a Dr somewhere else. just to do this crap again... maybe then the POS can be sued for his lack of detail. after hearing this I will fight as hard as i can before I go to another military Dr. and if they still say no then I will just live with it. Rob 07/29/2009 03:24:08 Coined? What the heck? He lost his legs and got coined? The AF sucks! Sherella 07/29/2009 08:40:41 I pray for you and your family every day, as well as everyone else in the 436th MDG here at Dover AFB! Keep your head up. This too shall pass. Karen and Jack Stinnett 07/29/2009 12:51:10 Hi, Colton and Jessica, m 07/30/2009 09:16:34 Yes he got coined. Haven't you people ever heard of the saying "if you can't say anything nice, dont say it at all" Colton collects them, the air force knows this. If you knew Colton personally, you would know this. So keep your comments to your self. Charlene 07/31/2009 17:03:57 easy folks..."coined" may not be a big deal to you all, and hardly restitution, but to Colton it probably means something. The AF hasn't ditched Colton & his family...Put faith in God that the AF will live up to it's Creed "...I will never leave an Airman Behind..." Alma Harshe 08/02/2009 17:01:20 I pray daily for Colton and his family, I have put them on my prayer list, and that of our church, we seldom understand why these things happen, but I have to believe it has it reason, God has a btter plan for them. You don't have to worry about punishing the doctor or anyone, let God handle it, and you will be surprised at the results. The thing here is not to post, then nothing else, it is to support this family in all the things they will face, be there for them, emotionally, physically if needed and always in your prayers. May God watch over all of you, is my prayer. Tawanna Hill 08/20/2009 20:39:52 Airman Read, I am truly sorry you have to go through this. There is nothing easy about this situation, and the fact that it could have been prevented makes it even more difficult to handle. I hope and pray God grants you the strenth to make it through these trying times. I know there is light at the end of this tunnel. I just may take a while to see it. Take care and may God bless you and your family. Leave a Reply |
